Spelling Connections Online Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register as a teacher?

  1. Click on the green Teachers tab in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Click on the Teachers register here link just above the yellow About the activities area.
  3. Enter your information.
    • Screen Name is your screen name that will be displayed to your students. You will need to provide this to your students when they register, so they will be included in your class.
    • Username and Password will be used for your login purposes ONLY. Do not share this information with your students. To avoid unauthorized access, please select a secure password that will not be easily guessed by any of your students.

What is a secure password?

A good password will combine uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers and symbols. It should be at least eight characters long. For example: Educ8@Sch001. A great article about passwords can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/privacy/password.mspx

How do students register?

  1. Students register on the main screen by clicking on the Students register here link below the login area.
  2. Students enter their information and then enter the teacher’s Screen Name in order to be associated with the class.
  3. Each student will create his or her own unique Username and Password.

How do students sign in to play?

  1. They will enter their student Username and Password in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  2. After they login, their student profile will be available and can be updated if necessary.
  3. Students can select a theme from the choices below the Spelling Connections logo.
  4. Students select a game from the yellow games menu on the left side of the screen.
  5. Each game provides dropdown menus where students may select their grade-level and desired unit.
  6. Upon completion of a game, each student can submit his or her score; their scores for each unit/game will be displayed on your personal teacher page, so you can provide extra help where necessary.

How do I view my students’ scores?

  1. Go to the Teachers section and sign in using the Email address and Password you registered with.
  2. You will then be presented with a list of the students who registered as members of your class.
  3. Click on a student’s games played data to see a history of games played and scores achieved.

What is the school-to-home link beside the student’s game results?

Clicking on this link will produce a ready-to-print (.pdf) letter that can be sent home to the student’s parent or guardian. These letters contain the unit words students need more practice with.

Is there a limit to the number of students who can register under my name?

You may register as many students as you have in your class(es).

I teach more than one grade level. How do I set up multiple classrooms using the same Username, Password, and Screen Name?

Your Username does not change after you register; you may edit your Password at any time: simply login and then click on your name to edit your account information.

The program recognizes your students when they register with your Screen Name – this is how your students are identified as being in your class and not that of another teacher.

You can modify your Screen Name to add more spelling groups and/or classes. You may then give a different Screen Name to each of your spelling classes or groups. Instructions for how to do this are on your “My Students” page.

How can I remove a student from my class?

Click the REMOVE link on your “My Students” page to remove a student. The student will still be able to login, and their game results will display for you or another teacher if the student is given a new Screen Name in the future.
